    Colleagues,

I just discovered this scorecard on globalization and wanted to pass it along just in case you haven't seen it.

Something that might be cheaper than flying to Michigan is to watch the free
webcast of a symposium sponsored by the New York Botanical Garden entitled
"Climate Change: Prospects for Nature" that features a keynote address by Al
Gore. The symposium was held this morning but the webcast is still
available. Here is a link for anyone interested.

  • 2.  Scorecard on globalization

    Posted 09-16-2006 15:29
that globalization scorecard has some interesting data, but I wonder
about the methodology - they don't look at the same group of countries
in each period, 1960-80, then 1980-2000 - in almost all cases, the
number of countries in the poorly performing groups (lowest income, life
expectancy, etc) declines sharply over time. Just look at figure 1,
where there were 30 countries in the first period in the lowest income
group, and only 17 in the same group in the second period. So lots of
countries moved into higher income groups. We don't know how poorly the
17 poorest countries performed in the first period.

and I can be counted among the globalization 'skeptics' !
