The 2006 Group on Organizations and the Natural Environment (GRONEN) Research Conference
SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT, INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
<st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">St. Gallen</st1:placename> (<st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Switzerland</st1:place></st1:country-region>), July 10-12, 2006

The 2006 GRONEN Research Conference will focus on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Sustainabil-ity. In recent years we could observe a shift towards an understanding of sustainability management that moves from exploitation to exploration, from corporate environmental management to sustainable entrepreneurship, and from efficiency to innovation. In fact, current sustainability trends indicate the need for radical innovation, which may be brought about by entrepreneurial start-ups as well as new ventures within existing corporations. Financing these innovations might be a key bottleneck for sustainable development, mainly because research in finance is only beginning to take into account the threats and opportunities of sustainability. At the same time, understanding changing customer preferences around sustainability and translating them into successful marketing strategies is key. Ultimately, innovative new business models will be required to combine environmental and social sustainability with economic sustainability.
The 2nd Conference of the Group of Organizations and the Natural Environment (GRONEN) will provide a unique platform for leading researchers to explore theoretical and empirical advances in research. Both senior and junior scholars participate and contribute with a paper to the conference. In particular, we wish to encourage the active participation of young researchers (Ph.D.-students and scholars who have finished their Ph.D. within the last five years). The GRONEN Conference will be held in the heart of <st1:place w:st="on">Europe</st1:place> and attracts contributors from around the world. The 2006 conference theme is "SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT, INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP". The Conference's paper sessions will be organized around 6 themes:
1. Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship
2. Determinants of Corporate Innovation for Sustainability
3. Corporate Strategies on Climate Change and Emissions Trading
4. Sustainability and Innovation: Institutional Perspectives
5. Sustainability Management and Firm Performance
6. Regulation and Corporate Sustainability
To build upon the outstanding networking opportunities that characterized the 2004 GRONEN event (University of Granada, Spain), we have once again confirmed the active attendance of some of the most senior scholars in research on innovation, organizations and the natural environment, many of them also participated in the Scientific Committee. We intend to publish a selection of best papers from the conference in a monographic issue of Advances on Research in Corporate Sustainability, (Edward Elgar Academic Publishing, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Boston</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">MA</st1:state></st1:place>.) (Series editors: Sanjay Sharma and Mark Stark).
The conference will be held at the <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">St. Gallen</st1:placename> in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Switzerland</st1:place></st1:country-region>, a UNESCO world heritage town located a convenient 1-hour train ride East of Zurich, the international hub for air and rail travel. GRONEN 2006 will be hosted by the university's Institute for Economy and the Environment (IWOe-HSG) and the oikos Foundation. Oikos and IWOe-HSG have pioneered the development of sustain-ability in business school research and education for more than a decade.
The Conference fee including lunch, dinner and coffee is Euro 400.-. We request registration on the conference website (http://www.iwoe.unisg.ch/gronen) before June 15, 2006. Attendance is limited to 60 participants.
Please feel free to contact us at gronen2006@unisg.ch for any questions or suggestions. We look forward to welcoming you in St. Gallen!
