    Dear ONE,

I would like to announce a new award that will be rolled out this year to ONE members.  Through the vision and generosity of the Network for Business Sustainability, I would like to announce the Research Impact on Practice Award.  While we will not start accepting nominations until January, I want to make you aware of this new development so that you can think about participating.

Thank you to the folks at NBS.

    Best regards,
    Andy

NBS Research Impact on Practice Award

Network for Business Sustainability connects research and practice to support sustainable business models. NBS and ONE are co-sponsoring this award.

    Purpose

"This award recognizes a piece of contemporary, peer-reviewed research that has important implications for practice. The research may focus on any dimension of social or environmental sustainability."

    Nomination and evaluation

The research must have been published within the previous calendar year. To nominate an article, submit the original article along with a letter of nomination, which should include the following:

    1.     What are the key contributions (theoretical and empirical)? (max 150 words)

    2.     What are the realized or potential implications for practice? (max 150 words)

Applicants may nominate their own work or the work of another.

The criteria for judging articles are:

    • ·       Rigor (i.e. what is the quality of the research – the work must be empirical, but can be based on qualitative or quantitative data) (50%)
    • ·       Relevance (i.e. is the topic of importance to the business community) (50%)

    The process is:

    ·       Step 1: Announcements through the ONE and NBS networks will be made from January to April. The submission deadline is April 30. Submissions should be made to NBS (mfischhoff@nbs.net) and ONE Awards Committee Chair (dj1@ualberta.ca).

    ·       Step 2: NBS staff and ONE Awards Committee Chair will identify most viable applications (up to 10) and forward to committee by May 31.

    ·       Step 3: The committee will review against criteria and select winner and two runners-up by June 30. The committee members will rank the top three candidates. If no clear winner emerges, then the group will hold a conference call.

    ·       Step 4: Decision will be communicated to ONE Chair and NBS Executive Director by July 15. If no problems are identified by July 21, a plaque will be prepared.

    The judging committee includes:

    • ·       One NBS staff person to ensure continuity and organizational memory. This person will represent both research and practice. To streamline process, this person will be the Committee Chair.
    • ·       The ONE Awards Committee Chair to represent ONE interests.
    • ·       Up to two ONE members to judge research quality (appointed by ONE Awards Committee Chair).
    • ·       Up to two members of NBS' practitioner community to judge relevance for practice.

    Awards

    ·       Winner (1). Receives $500 cash and a trophy to be delivered at ONE business meeting of AOM. Also contributes a Thought Leader piece for NBS and presents work at an NBS event (for Leadership Council, Corporate Friends, etc.). The research will be promoted broadly through NBS.

    ·       Runners-up (2). Present their work at an NBS event (for Leadership Council, Corporate Friends, etc.) and their research is translated and distributed through NBS.
