Dear Stephanie (and others),
Attached is the syllabus for my class, "Environment and Technology from the Policy and Business Perspective," which I've been teaching since 2004. My goal with the class is to integrate a serious focus on environmental innovation -- which is heavily wrapped up in policy design and is the focus of my research -- with some treatment of the environmental risks of new technologies. I frame the class in terms of technology as both "hero" and "villain" regarding the environment, and after the first two weeks, use every class session as an opportunity to explore a different technology case through the various lenses of the course title (which is a mouthful, I know).
The students come from all over campus, and it's been quite successful. I'd appreciate any comments anyone on this list might have on this course, as I'm thinking about expanding it next year to include a discussion section (I had a lot of excellent guest speakers this year, so I'd like to give the students more time to synthesize their knowledge). I'd also like to attract more business school students.
Thanks for asking about this and for offering to put together a compilation! My sense a few years ago was that there weren't a lot of classes focused on this.
Margaret

Dear Stephanie,
You may find interesting some of the Design Council (London, UK) cases that relate to sustainable development. The Council has several functions, main among them to show the relationship between business and design. The website is http://www.designcouncil.org/uk

teaching resources related to sustainable innovation
Hello All,
I am in the process of designing a fourth year seminar course in Sustainable Innovation. I have some ideas for what I would like to do, but I was wondering if any of you have recommendations or ideas as well. I'm looking for books, articles, chapters or materials to include in a reading pack; experiential activities related to sustainability, innovation or both; or any other ideas that you may want to pass along.
Please send your responses directly to me and I will post a compilation on the ONE website under teaching resources.
Cheers, stephanie
