Lets not forget that Germany, unlike the US, allows for political
minorities to participate in the democratic process (i.e. if a party
gets 10% of the popular vote, they get 10% of the seats in Congress).
The Congress then elects the chancellor. In order for the environmental
protection process to become more important here, many
environmentalists would have to be elected with the majority of votes
in their individual districts. Unfortunately that is far from
happening. If an Environmental Protection Party would have 10-20% of
the seats in the House, the political landscape would look different...
