This workshop - Saturday, July 7, 8:30-5 - is for any campus planner,
organizer or administrator who is in the midst of developing and
integrating sustainability as a core value into their campus planning
process. Workshops outcomes include:
* An understanding of individual and campus impacts environmentally,
socially and
politically and how that information can aid in identifying and
informing
decision-making.
* The potential resources a campus can utilize in answering identified
needs.
* What are the key pieces of the planning process.
* How to bring together key individuals into the planning process.
(b) The Case for Green Chemistry: Integrating Sustainability into
Curricula and Campus

This workshop - Sunday, July 8, 8-12:30 - will utilize a field trip to
Northwestern University's new undergraduate Organic Chemistry laboratory
for learning about:
* The basis for green chemistry, its role in sustainability, its
pedagogical impact,
and its integration into an undergraduate laboratory renovation
design based on
sustainable design principles,
* A hands-on green chemistry practicum for educators wishing to adopt a
greener organic
laboratory curriculum, and
* Adapting science curricula with strategies and tools used in
practicing greener
chemistry and extensively student-tested laboratory experiments.
These are preconference workshops (workshop attendance only is
permitted) at the 42nd annual, international conference and idea
marketplace of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP):
"Shaping the Academic Landscape: Integrated Solutions."
Note that the core conference program includes many conference sessions
relating to sustainability and sustainable design, as well as a keynote
from the chief sustainability officer for the City of Chicago!
