    Hello, ONE colleagues!

    I am pleased to announce the 2009 Conference of the International Association for Business & Society (IABS) will be held in beautiful Aspen / Snowmass, Colorado on June 18-21, 2009. Attached to this email, you will find the Call for Proposals, which have a due date of December 1, 2008.

    With growing awareness worldwide of climate change and other human impacts on nonhumans and the natural environment, Aspen/Snowmass provides a perfect location for addressing the conference theme "Thinking like a mountain: Nature, humans, and management." Conference attendees will have opportunities to experience the majesty of nature through pre-conference and intra-conference activities (e.g., hiking, whitewater rafting), as well as to converse with colleagues about these experiences. Further, related concerns will provide a focus for many of the sessions, so that we have the opportunity to consider the post-industrial economy and the sustainability of various organizational practices.

    The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is currently served by three major airlines and is just 15 minutes from the Silvertree Hotel and Conference Center in Snowmass Village, the conference site. Convenient, free public transportation by bus requires just 15 minutes between Snowmass and Aspen. Although many think of this area as a winter resort, you will be amazed and delighted at all it has to offer in the summertime!

    IABS, a learned society devoted to research and teaching in the area of business, government, and society, is also a collegial community. Founded in 1990, it has more than 300 members worldwide. Its research domain covers the various aspects of the interface between business and the socio-political dynamics of its environment. Topics include stakeholder theory, corporate social responsibility and performance, business ethics, environmental affairs, business and government relations, corporate governance, and cross-cultural issues. IABS also sponsors the highly ranked, widely indexed journal Business & Society, the only peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted entirely to research into and analysis of the relationships between business and society. 

    IABS conferences have always been designed to allow for developmental work: some of you are bound to be interested in submitting not just traditional scholarly papers but also research incubator or discussion ideas (see the attached Call for Proposals for a more in-depth discussion of these sessions). Perhaps you will also want to submit an idea for a symposium or a workshop.
