PETSMART DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR OF RETAILING AND CONSUMER SCIENCES

Position Description: Associate or Full Professor (9-months, tenured) with an
opportunity to be named as PetSmart Distinguished Professor (a 5-year
appointment, renewable). This position is a key component of the Retailing and
Consumer Sciences divisions new Consumers, Environment and Sustainability
Initiative (CESI), which is part of The University of Arizonas campus-wide
commitment to and focus on scholarly activity and scientific research
about the
environment and its sustainability. The goal of the CESI is to facilitate
collaborative, innovative and interdisciplinary efforts to support research,
teaching and outreach activities that focus on 1) consumer rituals, attitudes
and behavior associated with the consumption of water, energy and food and 2)
consumers sense of social responsibility as it relates to the sustainability
of these resources. Our long-term vision is to transform the CESI into a CES
Institute. This position is part of a new university-wide hiring initiative in
environmental science and policy.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. required in consumer behavior, marketing,
retailing, economics, management, psychology, sociology or closely related
field; a distinguished record of research publications and evidence of
effective teaching to both graduate and undergraduate students; and successful
supervision of graduate student research.
Preferred Qualifications: Internationally recognized scholar with a
strong and
continuing record of excellence in research involving consumers. We are
especially interested in candidates with research interests and projects that
are relevant to CESI. Superior communication and interpersonal skills
necessary
to be an effective leader, instructor, and mentor in an interdisciplinary team
environment. Demonstrated ability to attract external research funding, and to
interact effectively with corporate partners to develop new research projects
and communicate research results.
