    Biomimicry in Sustainable Design
Biomimicry is a design philosophy and process
that studies nature's biology and imitates these
models to solve human design problems. The
course will explore natural forms, measures, and
biological processes with examples of how
designers can mimic nature's design lessons
with the goal of helping projects reach deeper
sustainability. The instructor is Janus Welton,
AIA, LEED AP BD+C, CSBA, Biomimicry
Specialist. CEUs: AIA 6LU - HSW

    Living Infrastructure
This course will provide an introduction to the
concepts of Living Roofs, Living Walls, Urban
    Agriculture and various stormwater management
techniques which use living plants in integral
and equal partnership with grey infrastructure.
These design methods are finding increasing
acceptance and popularity as locally adaptive,
    aesthetically pleasing, cost-effective sustainable
design approaches. The class will discuss
living building methods relevant to the
Hudson Valley and why these could be helpful
in addressing pressing issues in the region. The
course will be augmented with readings, work
projects and optional field trips. The instructors
are Gail Beverly, CSBA, LEED GA, GRP and
Barbara Z. Restaino, ASLA, LEED AP

Program: 7 Petals of SITE, WATER, ENERGY,
    HEALTH, MATERIALS, EQUITY and BEAUTY

    Living Home Design Competition winner
planned for a cold climate while meeting the
standards of "Living Building" and how that can
be applied in the Northeast. The instructor is

    Sustainable Building Advisor Certificate Program
The Sustainable Building Advisor Program is a nine-month certification course focused on practical,
innovative ways to design, construct and manage buildings that are resource efficient, environmentally
responsible, cost effective, and healthy for all occupants. It includes consideration of the
US Green Building Council LEED rating system criteria but the curriculum goes beyond LEED topics.
The curriculum utilizes guest speakers who present in their area of expertise, as well as field
    trips to instructive sites.
The program is geared toward, but not limited to, building professionals who are looking to extend
their knowledge of high performance buildings and sustainable development practices. There are no
specific prerequisites for the program other than the desire to learn about creating buildings that are
responsive to the needs of sustainability. Graduates include architects, engineers, realtors, planners,
builders, developers and many others – even those who want a career change.
SBA training prepares professionals to take the CSBA exam, which provides the nationally recognized
Certified Sustainable Building Advisor designation. The SBA program is rated as a 400 Level
Mastery Course by the US Green Building Council's Education Provider Program. The course is
approved for LEED AP credential maintenance credits and fulfills the LEED Green Associate exam
    eligibility criteria.

    Dear Colleagues,

This Friday at noon eastern, The Bard MBA in Sustainability is launching a twice-monthly lunch-time dial-in conversation: Sustainable Business Fridays. The series is organized by members of Bard's Net Impact Chapter, and will feature sustainability leaders from the NYC area and across the planet.

For our inaugural event, please join the founders and designers of Gravity Light, Martin Riddiford  and Jim Reeves. The Gravity Light is a practical, economical alternative to kerosene lamps still commonly used in developing countries. The light works by harnessing the power of gravity: cool video here.

Riddiford and Reeves made headlines recently by crowd-sourcing close to four hundred thousand dollars in capital for their project on indiegogo.

    Call in Number: 719-325-2630.
    Conference Code: 121 817 9596

Join us for this important conversation about designing to meet the needs of low income consumers in developing countries.

Sustainable Business Fridays convenes every first and third Friday of the month during the semester, with special guests selected by students in the Bard MBA in Sustainability program. Our second call will be on April 4th,  with author and sustainability expert Bob Doppelt on "How to Rescue Your Life, The Planet and Your Organization." Watch for future announcements with the complete spring schedule.

Thanks for the work you are doing.
