Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor, the Institute of Environmental Sustainability and the Quinlan School of Business
Background: Loyola University Chicago (LUC; www.luc.edu), the Institute of Environmental Sustainability (IES; www.luc.edu/sustainability) and the Quinlan School of Business (QSB; www.luc.edu/quinlan), invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning fall 2014. The IES is a new interdisciplinary academic unit housed in a LEED-certified geothermal building with state-of-the-art laboratories, teaching and research facilities and a 406-bed "green dormitory". While the IES has a core faculty in environmental science, the Institute strives to enrich and diversify its faculty and academic programs with academic professionals from Business, Law, Public Policy, and Public Health. The current search seeks a candidate from the field of Business who will be appointed jointly to the IES and the QSB, and whose area of expertise is in environmentally sustainable business management/practices. The IES presently offers Bachelor's Degrees in Environmental Science and in Environmental Studies, as well as 5-year, Bachelor's/Master's Degrees with the QSB (http://www.luc.edu/sustainability/academics/envsci/mba/). Educational opportunities in the IES are enhanced by LUC's Retreat and Ecology Campus (LUREC) field station where students have fully developed and implemented a sustainable farm and a wetland restoration project (http://www.luc.edu/sustainability/academics/lurec/ ). The student farm and the IES biodiesel program (http://www.luc.edu/sustainability/get-involved/biodiesel/ ) are two examples of student-run businesses that serve as educational opportunities for both entrepreneurial sustainable business practices and solutions to environmental problems.
Duties and Responsibilities: Candidates for the position will be expected to teach business courses, both in the IES and in the QSB, to students who are interested in environmentally sustainable business models and entrepreneurship, management and/or strategy. The candidate will facilitate an academic bridge between the IES and the QSB through interdisciplinary research and teaching and the creation of courses that contribute to the curricula of our 5-year dual degree programs: Environmental Science/MBA and Environmental Studies/MBA. The successful candidate must have a demonstrable record of (or clear potential for) excellence in research, teaching, distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research, and student mentorship, all at the interface of environmental sustainability and business practices/policies.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in Business, preferably with formal undergraduate training in Ecology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science or related fields, as well as research and teaching experience in environmentally sustainable business practices (strategy, management, entrepreneurship, etc.). Practical experience in business is desirable, but not necessary.
Special Instructions to Applicants: Applicants should submit a current Curriculum Vitae, a teaching statement/research agenda, and a letter of interest outlining the candidate's qualifications to www.careers.luc.edu. They also should provide the names and email addresses of three individuals prepared to speak to their professional qualifications for this position. Referees will not be contacted immediately but may be at subsequent points in the review process. Applicants should forward additional materials related to teaching excellence and samples of scholarly publications to:
