The School of Management is hiring a post-doc research officer to work on a project examining how Water service providers can engage customers, communities and other stakeholders in sustainable water consumption and resilience, using a collaborative innovation approach.

Knowledge Exchange Officer (fixed term 3 years)

    School of Management

Salary: Starting from £30,424, rising to £36,298
Closing Date: Sunday 30 June 2013
    Interview Date: To be confirmed
    Reference: CC1701

We are delighted to be recruiting research staff to a major interdisciplinary project which is co funded by Wessex Water and the University of Bath's EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account. The advertised role uses a collaborative innovation approach to examine how Water service providers can engage customers, communities and other stakeholders in sustainable water consumption and resilience. This project is part of an integrated research programme, with other projects studying reedbeds and algae as sustainable water treatment processes, enhanced biogas generation from anaerobic digestion, life costing and capital asset management, and advanced analytical chemistry.

This research explores how the Water industry, customers, and related industries can change expectations about each other's roles in sustainable (ecosystems oriented) water consumption and resilience. The post involves conducting, managing, and reporting on applied research using several collaborative innovation approaches: identifying innovative service models from within the Water sector and other industries; engaging select stakeholders and customers in the design process; and exploring opportunities for service innovation and related technology use.

The Knowledge Exchange Officer will contribute to the project with conceptual and empirical research relevant to the aim of enabling the organizational application of research knowledge. His or her main duties require high-level practical competence and excellent written and oral communication skills and include: literature review, interviewing, facilitating participatory design processes, qualitative (and some quantitative) data analysis, publication and presentation of findings, impact narrative, and research management.

The successful applicants will have a PhD degree in relevant areas of management (e.g. innovation, marketing, organization studies), sociology, anthropology, social/environmental policy, service design, or other relevant social sciences discipline, ideally with experience relevant to consumption and collaborative innovation, or an equivalent professional qualification (or equivalent standard for overseas applicants). An appreciation of the social, institutional and cultural dynamics in which the UK water sector is situated is highly desirable.

Proposed interview dates: 16 to 18 July

The start date for this position will follow immediately upon satisfactory receipt of visa/certificate of sponsorship.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Svenja Tams, telephone 01225 386683 or email s.tams@bath.ac.uk.
