Dear Colleagues
I am pleased to provide you with two new case studies, written for the MBA / Executive MBA classroom. You are free to use them for educational purposes under a restrictive version of the creative commons license.
Both cases delve into new models for financing clean energy at scale. The first case on the UK Green Investment Bank looks at challenges associated with setting hurdle rates (risk-adjusted discount rates) for renewable energy project investments and lessons learned from mixed public/private funding. The second case about Abundance Generation considers the potential for crowdfunding to help plug the clean energy finance gap and the strategic choices faced by a start-up platform seeking to create a credible alternative to bank financing. I am happy to field questions about the cases, but please note that we have not developed external teaching notes.
I hope the case studies may be of service in your teaching and helpful to students interested in global investment opportunity in renewable energy.
kind regards,
Charlie
