Dear members of the ONE community,

It is with lots of sadness that I am writing this email today. A few days ago, Nigel Roome passed away after a long fight against cancer. Nigel has been a very influential and pioneer figure in our field. In 1978 he developed one of the first environmental management curriculum based on system thinking and complexity theory. In 1990 he launched an MBA course in corporate responsibility.

Trained in chemistry and economics, he had this ability to connect things always in amazing ways. I have had the chance to be thought by Nigel but also to teach with Nigel. Although we had to repeat the same course several times, each time I could learnt something new. His mind was going so fast that it is only by hearing him several times that I could see and understand all the connections he was doing (and I'm sure I missed many).

Nigel was a critical thinker. His ideas and scholarship contributions have influenced many companies, policy makers, and inspired researchers. Nigel's vision was to move society towards a more sustainable future.

Nigel was above all a wonderful and caring person. I will certainly miss him.

This is indeed a sad loss.  Nihel was one of the pioneers, starting back in the early days of the Greening if Industry Network.  I met him first at GIN Copenhagen and he had a big impact on my thinking.  It was an honor to reach back out to him for a chapter in the Handbook on Business and the Natural with Tima.  I hope that ONE can offer some kind of trubute to him, perhaps in the Newsletter?

This is indeed very sad news. I first met Nigel at the AoM meetings in the late 1990s. Nigel was a pioneer and influenced me in many ways. His research on management innovation and sustainable development was a big inspiration to my own work. His openness to new ideas was also contagious. He was truly interested in learning about new research ideas and extremely supportive of the work of younger scholars. He is truly missed.
