    INSTITUTE OVERVIEW
    The Erb Institute at the University of Michigan fosters global sustainable enterprise through interdisciplinary research and education initiatives, including our acclaimed MBA/MS Program. Utilizing a collaborative approach, we help business, government and civil society organizations to achieve meaningful progress toward sustainability.  Created in 1996 through the generosity of Frederick A. Erb (BBA ’47) and his wife, Barbara, the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise is a partnership between the School of Natural Resources and Environment and the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. The Institute fosters professional education, public outreach and scientific scholarship supportive of the transition to sustainability – that is, meeting the fundamental needs of a growing human population in an equitable manner within the means of nature.

    POSITION OVERVIEW
    Act as a chief operating officer with oversight and responsibility for day-to-day affairs of the Institute, performance and cohesiveness of Institute staff, clarity and efficiency of operations, strong relationships with internal and external constitutencies, and sound financial management.  In consultation with the Director, develop and refine strategies and programs to achieve the missions and goals of the Institute.  Work closely with prospective and existing students to ensure continuous improvement of high-quality educational programming and support services. Provide the leadership to maintain an effective External Advisory Board (EAB) and achieve value both for the Institute and EAB membership.  Actively participate in the efforts by the Director and University Development officers in acquiring operating funds to support the Institute.  Provide operational and strategic leadership support to the Director and associated faculty in carrying out the mission of the Institute. 

    JOB DUTIES
    •       Oversee all administrative, operational, marketing  and financial matters for the Institute
    •       Develop and oversee the fiscal year budget
    •       Provide strategic planning leadership in consultation with and as requested by the Director.
    •       Lead development of a five-year business plan, with progress reports conducted annually.
    •       Serve as a key public face of the Institute with regard to students, other University of Michigan stakeholders, external constituents, and media relations.
    •       Support the Director in developing new initiatives and executing major events and programs.
    •       Supervise and provide guidance to three Institute staff.  Prepare annual performance evaluations and salary adjustment recommendations.  Resolve internal operational issues or grievances.  Assure appropriate training and continuous improvements for maximum efficiency.
    •       Plan, set agendas and direct meetings of the Erb staff as needed
    •       Oversee MBA/MS student recruitment efforts, review applications, advise students and work collaboratively to develop new programmatic opportunities.  Work closely with Student Advisory Board to ensure alignment between student needs and Institute activities.
    •       Continually develop systems and processes to optimize communications and connections across a large and growing network of stakeholders.
    •       Oversee annual recruitment process for post-doctoral research fellows
    •       Manage External Advisory Board (EAB) relationships.  Plan/execute two EAB meetings annually.
    •       Oversee development of high-impact alumni engagement efforts
    •       Plan, set agendas and direct regular meetings of the Erb Leadership team, including a strategic retreat each summer

    JOB REQUIREMENTS
    •       MBA or PhD degree, plus a minimum of 5 years professional experience related to the delivery of superior services and programs.  Advanced degree related to Sustainability and at least 2 years of post-graduate degree experience is preferred.
    •       Significant knowledge/experience related to the field of sustainable enterprise
    •       Passion and energy for working closely with a large and growing community of students
    •       Excellent fundraising skills.  Demonstrated experience fundraising for programs is preferred.
    •       Advanced program development, marketing, strategic planning, organizational development, and analytical/problem-solving skills
    •       Demonstrated ability to effectively network and build relationships with various internal and external constituencies
    •       Advanced oral and written communication skills
    •       Strong public speaking skills; ability to present strong and persuasive oral and written communications to effectively work with internal and external stakeholders
    •       Demonstrated leadership skills and experience leading high-performance teams
    •       Strong interpersonal skills
    •       Excellent computer skills
