The ONE Division is pleased to continue the "ONE Emerging Scholar Award," supported by a commitment of $500 annually by Greenleaf Press.
Background
As described on its website, "the Academy of Management is the leading professional association for scholars dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge about management and organizations." AoM's members, now numbering 18264 and representing more than 100 nations, are scholars at colleges, universities, and research institutions, as well as practitioners with scholarly interests from business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.
The AoM is organized as communities of scholarship that cohere around important and distinctive research themes. The Organizations and the Natural Environment (ONE) Division focuses on the area of relationships between organizations and the natural environment. ONE is a growing and vibrant division, full of energetic scholarly enterprise with 747 members. In recognizing its ascendancy within the AoM, a recent review noted that ONE had fewer awards than other divisions, and that establishing several new ways to recognize achievement ought to be a priority for the Division.
ONE has always been marked by the presence of its early career scholars. From doctoral candidates to junior faculty members, our conference sessions feature many new and distinctive voices. We are very proud of our history of support for early career scholars and established a new award to honor our finest new scholars in 2008. Because we already have an award for the best dissertation by an ONE member, we decided to fund, with the gracious sponsorship of Greenleaf, an award for an early career scholar.
Criteria for Selection:
The ONE Emerging Scholar Award will recognize a stream of research that has substantial ONE content, and that has been published in premier scholarly outlets. Additionally, evidence of future sustained research productivity will be necessary. Particular attention will be paid to the potential impact that such research may produce.
Nomination and Selection
To be considered for the award, a scholar must be a member of the ONE Division and in good standing for at least the three years prior to applying for the award. The candidate must be within the first 6 years since receiving their PhD or other terminal degree. In the case where a scholar has taken a formal leave of absence due to illness or birth/adoption of a child, he or she may request an extension of this period from the Chair of the Selection Committee. A nomination consists of:
A letter of nomination by another ONE member who is not a faculty member at the same university as the nominated individual, and
A full vita from the nominated individual.
A Selection Committee is appointed by the ONE Executive Committee, and is comprised of two ONE members that are past or current Executive Committee members, and two or three other at large ONE members that the Executive Committee shall appoint. There is international representation on this committee.
Nominations for the 2010 ONE Emerging Scholar Award will be accepted until June 1, 2010, with the announcement of the award made at the Academy of Management meetings in August of the same year. All nominations should be sent be mail or email to:
