    Hi, all --

This consortium may be of interest to ONE doctoral students.  Please forward this reminder to interested students.

    Cheers,
    Michael Johnson-Cramer

Social Issues in Management Division 2007 Doctoral Consortium
Academy of Management Annual Meeting, Philadelphia, PA
    August 3-4, 2007

    Co-chairs:
Judith A. Clair, Boston College, clairju@bc.edu
    Michael E. Johnson-Cramer, Bucknell University, mjohncra@bucknell.edu

All doctoral students working in the general area of social issues in management (SIM) - including but not limited to business ethics, corporate social responsibility, business and government - are invited to apply to participate in the Academy of Management 2007 Social Issues in Management Division doctoral consortium. In addition to students who focus on social issues, students whose primary area is outside of SIM but who also emphasize social issues (e.g., ethics or business and society relations) in their work are welcome. Indeed, SIM has a history of encouraging cross-fertilization with scholars from other divisions.

The consortium serves as an ideal opportunity for doctoral students to begin to converse about scholarship and teaching with a wider community of scholars in social issues in management beyond their Universities and doctoral programs.  A variety of top SIM scholars will participate as panelists and coaches, and participating students are typically drawn from a range of countries and backgrounds. While offering abundant networking opportunities, the consortium content focuses on developing research and teaching skills and strategies, and on achieving a balance between career and other dimensions of life.

The consortium begins on Friday afternoon with opportunities to get acquainted with fellow participants and SIM scholars.  This session is followed by a casual dinner "on the town." Saturday will be full of additional learning, with ample time for reflection and discussion.  We'll spend time in sessions devoted to the crafts of teaching and research. We will continue the tradition of pairing consortium participants with SIM scholars to provide feedback on students' research ideas. We will spend time with journal editors to enhance our publishing skills.  And, we will also spend time reflecting and discussing early career issues such as managing the dissertation process, developing a research stream, choosing a job/university, and work-life balance.

To apply, students need to obtain a faculty sponsor and submit a nomination form. Interested students can find a link to the nomination forms and more information at http://sim.aomonline.org/docconpage.htm. Applicants should also ensure that sponsoring faculty e-mail the consortium chairs with a one paragraph recommendation. In addition, students must submit an abstract describing their dissertation (no more than 2 pages single-spaced) and an application form ( http://sim.aomonline.org/Consortium_Application.dot). These materials are also available at the website listed above.  All submissions should be sent to Michael Johnson-Cramer at mjohncra@bucknell.edu.  While we will give priority to those students who are finishing their study and who have not previously attended a SIM doctoral consortium, we realize that students may also benefit by attending a consortium earlier in their course of study and by attending more than once.

Space is limited, so it is essential to submit an application no later than the deadline of May 7, 2007. We hope to see you in Philadelphia!
