Symposium on Industrial Ecology for Young Professionals (SIEYP)--held
in conjunction with the ISTAS/ISSST 2009

With the generous support of the U.S. National Science Foundation, we
are delighted to offer financial aid to participants of the first
Symposium on Industrial Ecology for Young Professionals. To be
eligible, the applicant must be a graduate student or a post-doctoral
researcher from a university or non-profit organization. Apply before
January 31, 2009. Financial aid will only be available for round-trip
airfare in economy class and accommodation based on double occupancy.
Financial aid will be awarded as reimbursements up to a given amount.
Reimbursements will be processed after the conference. Please allow at
least 3-4 weeks for the arrival of reimbursement checks. Information

Theme: Social Implications of Sustainable Development

The IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society (ISTAS) is
an annual international forum that explores the social implications of
technology. ISTAS’09 will be held concurrently with the IEEE
International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology (ISSST),
with joint sessions related to an overall conference theme of
sustainability. ISTAS ‘09 will bring together participants interested
in sharing their research, projects, and ideas about: Technological
innovation as a strategy for sustainable development; Ethical
considerations in sustainable development; Roles for expert and lay
knowledge in sustainable development; Perspectives from South, North,
East, and West in a context of globalization; Role of ‘community’ in
sustainable development; Professional education for sustainable
development; Systems thinking as a frame for inquiry on sustainable
development; and other sustainability-related topics.
