Assistant Professor of Marketing or Strategy
full-time
Vacancy number 08-5047
The assistant professor will undertake and help coordinate research and teaching in the Strategy & Marketing section. The section is involved in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and executive levels, including the Amsterdam MBA programme. Staff members teach a wide range of courses in business studies, including marketing and strategy. As the teaching planning allows for some flexibility, the appointee can be from marketing or strategy.
The section's research programme focuses on strategy and marketing in the broadest sense, and has as special feature its cross-disciplinary attention for innovative and societally relevant international topics, most notably corporate social responsibility, sustainability and cultural entrepreneurship, in which strategy and marketing researchers cooperate. As a whole, the programme is distinctly and deliberately interdisciplinary in nature, adopting theoretical perspectives from different disciplines, and using various research methodologies and methods. Researchers in the section currently publish on topics in marketing (consumer behaviour, innovation, new product development, international entrepreneurship) and strategy (sustainability/corporate social responsibility, cultural management/entrepreneurship, international business, evolutionary theories). There are no requirements concerning the particular research area, since the main criterion is output in leading international marketing and/or management journals; however, preference may be given to candidates who can link up with existing research strengths.
The Strategy & Marketing section is chaired by Prof. Ans Kolk.
Requirements
A PhD in Marketing or Strategy, a proven ability to initiate and implement research of international standards, the ability to stimulate and encourage the research of others, demonstrated teaching excellence and the ability to teach in English. Short-listed candidates will be asked to give an academic seminar.

The salary is negotiable, but will be based on the salary scale for assistant professors at Dutch universities and be in accordance with the collective agreement regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities. The gross monthly salary will be between €3,195 (min. scale 11) and € 4,970 (max. scale 12). Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The UvA offers a very attractive pension scheme.
The date on which the appointment is to begin will be determined by mutual agreement; however, we would like it to begin by the middle of 2009. Assistant professor appointments are tenure-track positions: the initial appointment will be for four years, and become tenured upon good research and teaching performance. The latter also implies participation in a training to obtain a basic teaching certificate (a system adopted by all Dutch universities) if the candidate does not have that qualification yet.
