Dear colleagues,
I trust this email finds you well!
I would like to draw your attention to the PhD Academy "Toward a Renewable Future? Technological, Organizational and Institutional Change in the Energy Sector" which will take place from June 8 to 13, 2014, in the midst of the beautiful mountain scenery of the Swiss Alps.
The academy provides a unique platform for PhD students with a background in innovation studies, management, economics or political sciences to present their research to an audience of like-minded students and four international faculty with a track record in research on innovation in the energy sector. Participants will obtain detailed feedback on their research design, theoretical approaches and methodology. In addition, there will be plenty of room for informal discussions and networking with other PhD students and professors. This year's faculty consists of:
· Dr. Magali Delmas
Professor of Management, Institute of the Environment & Anderson School of Management, UCLA
· Dr. Joanna Lewis
Professor of Science, Technology and International Affairs, Georgetown University
· Dr. Raghu Garud
Professor of Management & Organization, Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University
· Dr. Volker Hoffmann
Professor for Sustainability and Technology, ETH Zurich
Research of the participants should focus on – but is not limited to – the following topics:
· Corporate strategies in the energy sector
· Public policies fostering low-carbon energy technologies
· Technological innovation systems in the context of energy
· The role of developing countries in developing and diffusing low-carbon energy technologies
· Socio-technical assessment and forecasting of low-carbon energy technologies
To guarantee an intensive learning process, attendance is limited to 15 PhD students. Third-party funding allows us to offer a participation fee of only CHF 400 (ca. 440 USD) which covers accommodation, meals and excursions.
Applications should be sent to Joern Hoppmann (jhoppmann@ethz.ch) and include (i) a cover letter explaining your motivation, (ii) a proposal abstract of max. 2 pages, and (iii) a CV. The deadline for application is February 15, 2014. Notification of acceptance will be given by March 1, 2014. Deadline for full paper submission (10-15 pages) is May 1, 2014. For additional information, please see the previous academies' programs on our website (http://www.sustec.ethz.ch/education/PhD_Academy/).
Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you think might be interested.
Best wishes,
Joern
