DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:           

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Public Policy beginning in the 2015-16. The program is seeking a teacher-scholar who can contribute to high-quality undergraduate and graduate education and pursue an active program of research and scholarship.

 

The Public Policy Department offers a B.S. in Public Policy, an M.S. in Science, Technology, and Public Policy, as well as supporting RIT's general education program.  The program is expanding its curricular relationship with other colleges of the university, including engineering, computing and information sciences, and health sciences and technology. The area of specialization is open but the successful candidate should demonstrate a clear interest in science and technology policy issues. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching potential in the public policy curriculum; a strong research potential; and, potential for service to the university and community. Candidates with backgrounds that integrate science and engineering fields with the social sciences and humanities are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree, in an appropriate field, is required prior to the position start date.

To be considered for an appointment at the Associate rank, applicants must have: a record of high-quality research; substantial teaching experience in relevant courses; record of service to the university and community; and, a track record of external funding.

The College of Liberal Arts is one of nine colleges within Rochester Institute of Technology. The College has over 150 faculty in 12 departments in the social sciences, humanities, and the arts. The College currently offers twelve undergraduate degree programs and five Master degrees, serving over 800 students. Undergraduate degrees include Advertising and Public Relations; Criminal Justice; Economics; International Studies; Journalism; Museum Studies, Professional and Technical Communication; Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy; and Urban and Community Studies. The graduate degrees are in Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology (Experimental Psychology); Communication and Media Technologies; School Psychology; Criminal Justice; and Science, Technology, and Public Policy.

·        Ph.D. or terminal degree in an appropriate field at time of appointment,

·        A clear interest in policy issues that support the degree programs, and,

·        An ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.

For rank of Assistant Professor, candidates must have:

·        Effective teaching potential in the public policy curriculum,

·        Strong research potential, and,

·        Potential for service to the university and community.

 

For rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have:

·        Record of high-quality research,

·        Substantial teaching experience in relevant courses,

·        Record of service, 

·        A track record of external funding
