Storytelling has a long tradition of being a means of transmitting wisdom and lessons to future generations in almost every culture of the globe. In sub-Saharan Africa, storytelling is considered as an important means of providing wisdom, valuable lessons and guidelines to future generations. Yet, this practice has not been considered as a relevant area of academic inquiry by scholars interested in management research in sub-Saharan Africa. Hence, this PDW brings together management scholars in order to develop a research agenda for empirical as well as conceptual research on the role of storytelling and words in management in sub-Saharan Africa. The PDW will include three sessions. The first session will consist of brief presentations from four management scholars. These presentations will lay the groundwork for group discussions aimed at identifying topics worth of scientific investigations. The second session will consist of group discussions among attendees to identify research avenues. The third session will consist of a general discussion outlining the research avenues to pursue. The deliverable of the PDW consists of developing a research agenda on storytelling, words and management research and practice in sub-Saharan Africa.
