This PDW builds upon four successful 2009-2013 AOM Cross Sector Partnership PDWs that explored environmental and social sustainability, which facilitated the development of multiple special issues and edited volumes, including a 2014 Handbook. The tradition is to bear collective witness to a live case that pushes the frontier of social innovation in real time by hearing from multiple stakeholders; then use what we have heard to push the limits of theory and practice and teaching, together. The discussion in the first half of the workshop is captured as award-winning teaching cases (Walmart, Oxfam), which are quickly and widely adopted across schools and programs. The co-organizers facilitate this discussion by disseminating white papers in advance and by setting-up real-time debates on the implications for research and practice of the live case. The highly interactive format encourages connections between the most senior scholars in the field and newcomers and spearheads the formation of new collaborations across disciplines, methodologies and challenges. This year's theme is prepared by an international team of collaborators that came together at this PDW in 2010 and are now half-way through a large-scale 5-year grant that explores the processes and practices by which prominent corporations come together with leading ENGOs to jumpstart, convene and co-create solutions to intractable environmental problems. This year's participants will hear how unlikely allies like WWF and HP come together to create and spread a high-impact innovation: Living Planet @ Work, and preview additional bold experiments and extensions taking place at HP and WWF. We welcome each of you back to our 6th cross-sector PDW.
Barbara Gray is our opening keynote. Free copies of the teaching case and teaching note will be handed out at the session.
We have two distinguished speakers, Adrienne Lo and Frances Edmonds, representing WWF Canada and HP Canada respectively. They will reveal the history (still in the making) of one of the world's first and best cross-sector partnerships leveraging social responsibility as a platform for sustainable work and living, now being rolled globally within both organizations.
As many of you may have come to expect the featured partnership is at the forefront of possibility, and will challenge us all to see farther into the future of cross-sector work.
We are counting on each of you for real-time reflections and insightful questions.
As your hosts, we very much hope you will manage your busy AOM schedule to join the growing community of scholars who care about the theory and practice of cross-sector work.
