Job Summary: As part of its mission supporting the transformation of
the energy economy, NREL has an immediate opening for a full time
Postdoctoral Researcher in Behavioral Decision Sciences specializing in
individual decision making. We are looking for someone with an
understanding of individual behavior and decision-making related to
energy usage, and sustainability. The successful applicant for this
position will be a key member of an interdisciplinary team transforming
21st century energy systems and services. This team will reside in the
"incubator" area of NREL. This area is a small group of specialized
researchers working on leading areas of research not focused on by the
rest of the lab. Exceptional knowledge of behavior science, data science
skills, experience and a high degree of independence and leadership are
required for this position. The assignment is nominally for one year, but a
longer term may be available for strong candidates.
Job Duties:
(i) Adapt and create new behavioral science methods that can be applied
to improve understanding, decision-making, control or design of 21st
century energy systems and services
(ii) Designing research to collect data from individuals, and behavior
prediction
(iii) Be a key contributor and member of a diverse team of researchers
(iv) Prepare technical reports, journal articles, and presentations
Required Education and Experience Must be a recent PhD graduate within
the last three years.
Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
(i) Experience applying a broad range of behavior science tools,
technologies and methods for independent human behavior models
(ii) Passion for energy and environmental sustainability as evidenced by
previous experience
Preferred Qualifications (i) Training or experience in
o Experimental Economics
o Analysis of geospatially explicit time series data
o Extreme value theory and risk analysis
o Bayesian methods
o Sensitivity analysis
o Uncertainty quantification
o Anomaly detection/diagnosis
