    Dear Matthew, Michelle,

My apologies for the delay in following up the email you sent me last August. I set out below the text for inclusion in the ONE L-Digest that I hope is now in order?

    Title of Entry:

A new book on socio-ecological inertia - apologies for cross-posting.

    Description:

A book that may be of interest to people working in the critical space is 'Ecological Imaginaries Reframing Organisation' CBS Press (2016).

This book investigates the inertia of societies' institutions and organisations to redress the problems of the Anthropocene and argues that deep, radical cultural change is needed to successfully overcome this ecological crisis.

The proposition of this book is that alteration to our social imaginary (ies) is a necessary precursor to enactment of sustainability. For this radical cultural change to be effective an active re-imagination of what it means to live a 'good' Life, needs an ecological logic to replace the economic logic embedded in our current political and organizational, values, decision-making and practices.

The book offers a counterpoint, in the conceptual model of metabolic organization, to the three dimensions of sustainability / sustainable development, which rejects the use of language and symbolism drawn from the ideology of capitalism.

Metabolic organisation is defined as a systemic framework comprising three interdependent concepts: metabolism, values and enmeshment, and brings together three distinct strands of theory: social and biological metabolism, value theory and ecological theories.

    kind regards
