Charles,
You need not. I feel that the best strategy for a thriving listserv is anarchy, allowing variety of ideas to come in. We may block certain ideas from coming in but we cannot stop people having them, and it is better to expose them to us all, although it may provoke some. We want to be professional, to be scientific, but we are persons as ordinary as the general public, and have our personal likes and dislikes towards any ideas. Why we could not take the various responses from the listservers as a test pool and learn something from it?
Just personal thought to share.
Best regards,
Sheng

A couple of folks in our ONE-L virtual community were disturbed by my seeming to side with one person rather than another in a way wrong for a moderator to do. My intention was rather to endorse limiting censorship and increasing civility. Therefore, I retract my sentence: "I come down the acceptability of mulling over the usefulness of WWIII and cannibalism (ideas) rather than ad hominem attacks and mudslinging."
