The School of Business Administration at Portland State University seeks
exceptional candidates for a tenure track position as the Hannah Andersson
Professor of Business and Sustainability beginning September 16, 2008. We
are seeking candidates pursuing research that adds value to organizations by
addressing ecological and/or social issues related to business strategy,
organizational behavior and/or entrepreneurship. The candidate should have
an earned doctorate in business or related field with an emphasis in
management. The candidate must offer evidence or promise of an innovative
program of research as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching.
The School serves over 3,400 students, and grants more graduate degrees than
any other university in Oregon. The Schools MBA+ program was ranked 22nd
in the world and 15th in the country by Beyond Grey Pinstripes for the
integration of social and ecological issues into curriculum and the focus on
social and ecological issues in faculty research. The Schools Center for
Design and Innovation for Business & Sustainability offers a variety of
activities, including an annual conference, to further the Schools efforts
in this area.
The School of Business is AACSB-accredited and has a commitment to both
research and teaching. The schools active involvement with the regions
strong and growing entrepreneurial, sustainability-focused business base
provides numerous opportunities for faculty to conduct research with the
thriving footwear and apparel, renewable energy, high tech, green building
and food industries. We offer a stimulating, collegial environment that
values a diversity of research approaches and topics, and supports research
efforts through the provision of graduate assistantships, travel funds,
summer support, and a teaching load conducive to effective scholarship.
Management faculty have published in flagship journals including the Academy
of Management Journal, Academy of Management Learning and Education,
Business Strategy & the Environment, California Management Review, Journal
of Business Research, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Corporate
Citizenship, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of
Management, Journal of Management Studies, Organization & Environment, and
Personnel Psychology.
Portland State Universitys Sustainability Vision is to be an
internationally recognized university known for excellence in student
learning, innovative research, and community engagement that simultaneously
advance economic vitality, environmental health, and quality of life. To
fulfill this vision, PSU is developing core multidisciplinary research
competencies in key areas related to pressing real world problems. The
initial priorities include: Intelligent Transportation Systems; Integrated
Water Resource Management; Sustainable Urban Development; Sustainable
Business Processes and Practices; Environmental Science and Green Technology
Development; Community Food Systems; and, Social Sustainability.
Furthermore, since 2002 PSU has focused on designing new buildings and
retrofitting and renovating older campus buildings with sustainability in
mind. Several PSU buildings serve as models of these kinds of innovative
sustainable design and construction projects. Its success at integrating
sustainability into its campus operations was highlighted when PSU was the
first university in the nation to receive the Salmon Safe certification for
its ecologically sustainable land management practices that protect
agricultural and urban watersheds.
The university is dispersed over 49 acres of greenspace amidst the cultural
and business center of downtown Portland. Portland is a thriving city of
natural beauty located within an hours drive of mountains, forests, and the
Oregon coast.
