    Posted 02-25-2009 10:59
As a project for a graduate class, I'm asking 10 students to conduct a
carbon footprint analysis for my campus. I also want to set up a
system on the campus so that this data can be collected annually.
    Does anyone know of
*** campuses that have already done this,
*** contacts I can make about it,
*** quality eco-calculators (I've found most free calculators to be
pretty general, but I could be wrong), or
    *** useful sources of information?
I'm inexperienced in doing this, so I need whatever help I can get.
    Thanks so much,
    Len

I think I can help. If your institution has signed the ACUPCC (American
College and University Presidents Climate Commitment) you are required
to calculate your carbon footprint which will include a greenhouse gas
emission survey. The ACUPCC web site offers a lot of info @ getting
started. (We have almost completed our GHG emission survey here at USF
and one student has done most of the work! This is in part due to the
way we organized our sustainability initiative which has afforded her
easy access to people and information.) Secondly, if your institution is
a member of ASHEE you will have access to a large array of resources on
carbon calculation. (The price - $1500 - is worth it.)

    http://www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org/

    http://www.aashe.org/

I'm attaching some misc. resources for your review. The last item is a
quick summary by one of our students of the three calculators we were
    considering.

    Hope this helps!

    Sharon,
Perhaps you'd like to respond to Len? If you're not on the ONE-L
listserv you may not be able to post to it but I would be happy to
    forward something. Let me know.

We have done it at Duke. We used the Clean Air-Cool Planet calculator.
For a campus as big as Duke, it's a major challenge and was managed by
our campus sustainability coordinator (in the Exec VP's office).

The Clean Air-Cool Planet system is designed specifically for colleges
    and universities.
