David M. LeVan Endowed Chair of Ethics and Management

Gettysburg College invites applications for the David M. LeVan Endowed Chair of Ethics and Management. This chair is intended to provide academic focus and scholarly leadership on ethical issues related to management and leadership, and to help instill a concern for ethical issues and behavior throughout the liberal arts curriculum.  Academic rank is open. The locus of tenure is in the Department of Management (https://www.gettysburg.edu/academics/management/), with courtesy rank in Philosophy a possibility depending upon the candidate's credentials. The appointment is tenure-track, although a senior candidate may be appointed with tenure. The appointment will begin in August 2015.

The LeVan Professor will offer courses in the Organization and Society track each year addressing topics in management ethics, such as the social and legal responsibilities of organizations, the concept of moral leadership, and personal values and professional ethics – possibly including one in the format of a first-year seminar. At least one of the courses per year will be in the Management Department's core. Possible additional assignments include: administering an endowed executive-in-residence program focused on ethical practice; developing workshops, course modules, and ethics cases for other faculty; outreach programs for local leaders. The LeVan Chair is eligible for a yearlong sabbatical on a five-year cycle.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, possess a distinguished record of teaching and research in accordance with the duties described, have a commitment to teaching and advising in the liberal arts tradition, and aim to involve undergraduate students in her or his research.

A cover letter, curriculum vitae and statement of teaching and research goals should be submitted electronically to http://gettysburg.peopleadmin.com/postings/1159.  In addition, applicants should enter the names and email addresses of three professional references. After the applicant completes his/her on-line application, the professional references indicated will be contacted by Gettysburg College via email to submit letters of recommendation electronically. At least one individual should be able to speak to the candidate's teaching effectiveness. Review of applications will begin on January 10, 2015 and will continue until a successful candidate is found. Letters of recommendation must be received by January 17, 2015.

Inquiries can be addressed to Dr. Rob Bohrer, Dean of Social Sciences, at rbohrer@gettysburg.edu.
