    Dear fellow ONE members,

As the Membership Chair for the International International Association for Business and Society (IABS), I would like to extend to you this special invitation to join IABS in Florence, Italy, May 31-June 3, 2007 for our annual conference. I am anxious to have more work on the natural environment in evidence, so please prepare your proposals on topics from environmental ethics to environmental reporting to environmental management.

The conference will be headquartered at Villa La Pietra, which offers a majestic view of the city centre. Like Niccoló Machiavelli, who lived and worked in Florence from 1469-1527 and who advised the rulers of his times, Business & Society scholars typically also find themselves in the role of advisor to practitioners. As academics they often have advanced insights but in order to apply these they need to be made available to practitioners in one way or the other. Thus, the theme of our conference this year is advising practitioners.

IABS, a learned society devoted to research and teaching in the area of business, government, and society, is also a collegial community. Founded in 1990, it has more than 300 members worldwide. Its research domain covers the various aspects of the interface between business and the socio-political dynamics of its environment. Topics include stakeholder theory, corporate social responsibility and performance, business ethics, environmental affairs, business and government relations, corporate governance, and cross-cultural issues. IABS also sponsors a highly ranked, widely indexed journal, Business & Society, the only peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted entirely to research into and analysis of the relationships between business and society.

Please see the attached Call for Proposals for this conference. The deadline for these proposals is December 1.

Two of our conference members with expertise in case writing are proposing a case workshop, so you will also find attached a Call for Cases. Please  note that the deadline for cases is November 15.

    Regards,
    Jamie Hendry
