    Hello All,
     
    I am trying to put some thoughts together on the issue of environmental auditing and organizational/environmental performance.  I have done the standard literature searches using the various databases.  Unfortunately, I have had to dig through some articles that did not appear in these searches and found that Audit/Auditors/Auditing were missed.  I do not want an important work to fall through the cracks.  Thus, I am sending out this message.
     
    If you know of, or have published, articles that explicitly consider or relate environmental auditing practices to environmental performance or organizational performance, then I would greatly appreciate the reference (and if you have the paper, it is very welcome too).

    Hello Joe

    What sort of paper are you after (academic or practitioner)?

    I have audited integrated business management systems for 20 years and
    trained about 200 internal quality auditors, but it is not something
    that I recall writing about specifically. I presented a paper at an
    internal auditing conference, but it was simply a report of the internal
    audit work I did for an employer. What is the angle about auditing you
    are looking for?

    I have some practitioner papers from about 12 years ago that I could
    post to you, but none electronic apart from this one where I used TQM to
    eliminate environmental polution (it was not auditing, but was part of
    the corrective action to audit reports):

    The auditing simply finds the problems, whereas the corrective action
    resolves the problems.

    Hi Joe.

    The National Academy of Public Administration put out a fairly significant report reviewing the auditing procedures/practices related to ISO 14001. I believe NAPA has the report available on their website.

    Hi, Joe,

     

    Would conference papers help in your quest?  I logged in to my GIN member account and searched the GIN conference archive (1998-2004) for "audit" and got 92 matches.  Just go to http://www.greeningofindustry.org/ and LOGIN with your GIN member username & password.  Auditing, reporting, evaluation have been big themes in GIN through the years. 

     

    For the 1991-1997 GIN conferences, proceedings were hardcopy (with the exception of GIN1993/Boston on two compressed diskettes).  Some of the best papers of the past 15 years have been published in our books and in GIN special issues of Business Strategy and the Environment (Wiley) ("The official journal of the Greening of Industry Network").  See http://www.greeningofindustry.org/publications.html for citations of the books and journals.
