Call for Papers
The 2006 Group of Organizations and the Natural Environment (GRONEN)
Research Conference
SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT, INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
July 10-12, 2006 (University of St. Gallen, Switzerland)
Deadline for Submissions: January 29, 2006
The 2006 GRONEN Research Conference will focus on Innovation,
Entrepreneurship and Sustainability. In recent years we could observe a
shift towards an understanding of sustainability management that moves from
exploitation to exploration, from corporate environmental management to
sustainable entrepreneurship, and from efficiency to innovation. In fact,
current sustainability trends indicate the need for radical innovation,
which may be brought about by entrepreneurial start-ups as well as new
ventures within existing corporations. Financing these innovations might be
a key bottleneck for sustainable development, mainly because research in
finance is only beginning to take into account the threats and
opportunities of sustainability. At the same time, understanding changing
customer preferences around sustainability and translating them into
successful marketing strategies is key. Ultimately, innovative new business
models will be required to combine environmental and social sustainability
with economic sustainability.
The 2nd Conference of the Group of Organizations and the Natural
Environment (GRONEN) will provide a unique platform for leading researchers
to explore theoretical and empirical advances in research. Both senior and
junior scholars are invited to participate and contribute with a paper to
the conference. In particular, we wish to encourage the active
participation of young researchers (Ph.D.-students and scholars who have
finished their Ph.D. within the last five years).
Objectives and Topics
The GRONEN Conference will be held in the heart of Europe and is expected
to attract contributors from around the world. The 2006 conference theme is
"SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT, INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP". The
Conference’s parallel paper session will be organized around 6 themes:
1. Sustainable Entrepreneurship
2. Corporate Venturing for Sustainability
3. Financing Sustainable Innovation
4. Business Models for Sustainability
5. Institutional Innovation & the Creation of Markets for Sustainability
6. Innovation and Sustainability in Higher Education
Contributors should note which of these tracks is most suitable for their
papers. While we intend to give a guideline for themes of high relevance to
the overall conference theme, we also welcome proposals that are outside
these tracks. In case of doubt, authors may want to check with the
organisers before submitting a full paper.
To build upon the outstanding networking opportunities that characterized
the 2004 GRONEN event (University of Granada, Spain), we have once again
confirmed the active attendance of some of the most senior scholars in
research on innovation, organisations and the natural environment, many of
them are also participating in the Scientific Committee. Deadline for
submission is January 29, 2006. The Scientific Committee will examine all
papers and select high quality papers related to our objectives. We intend
o publish a selection of best papers from the conference in a monographic
issue of Advances on Research in Corporate Sustainability, (Edward Elgar
Academic Publishing, Boston, MA.) (Series editors: Sanjay Sharma and Mark
Starik).
Organization
The conference will be held at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland,
a UNESCO world heritage town located a convenient 1-hour train ride East of
Zurich, the international hub for air and rail travel. GRONEN 2006 will be
hosted by the university’s Institute for Economy and the Environment
(IWOe-HSG) and the oikos Foundation. Oikos and IWOe-HSG have pioneered the
development of sustainability in business school research and education for
more than a decade.
The Conference fee including lunch, dinner and coffee is Euro 400.-- (or
360.-- if registering before April 15, 2006). We request registration on
the conference website before June 1st, 2006. Attendance is limited to 60
participants.
Please feel free to contact us at
gronen2006@unisg.ch for any questions or
suggestions. We look forward to welcoming you in St. Gallen 2006!
