Expressions of Interest: Deputy Editor(s): Business & Society

    Posted 07-01-2022 17:05

As you may be aware, the term for the current team of Co-Editors of 'Business & Society' comes to an end at the end of this year. We're pleased to advise that Prof Hari Bapuji and Prof Colin Higgins will be continuing on for an additional three-year term (2023-2025) as Co-Editors-in-Chief.

As we return to our normal life, and business and society issues continue to gain more momentum across the management field, we see a great opportunity for the journal to play a leading role in shaping the discourse, scholarship, and debates in the business and society field. We plan to do this by developing a collective leadership approach at the journal via many initiatives.

Towards this end, we are seeking to appoint four Deputy Editors to work alongside us in driving the strategic direction of the journal, and thus, shape the field. Accordingly, we are seeking expressions of interest suitably qualified individuals who can commit to a three-year term. The role largely involves working alongside us in managing the flow of manuscripts – making some desk decisions (Reject without Review or Reject and Resubmit). It mostly involves assigning manuscripts to Associate Editors who take on the role of assigning papers to reviewers, and making the final decisions.

Importantly, the Deputy Editors will also play a strategic leadership role in the journal. We anticipate each also taking on one strategic role (e.g., managing special issues, digital presence, impact, etc). We're very keen to widen the input that the editorial team has on the direction of the journal, and the role we play in shaping the field.

An important priority for us in the next term is a commitment to diversity and inclusion and being proactive in driving the development of the field. To that end, the Deputy Editors will be drawn from a wide geographical scope, ensure diversity of thought, perspective, and worldview, be balanced in terms of qualitative and quantitative expertise, and be recognised for their commitment to the community of scholars who shape what we do.

We are seeking expressions of interest from amongst our current editorial/leadership team, but we also keen to bring in new talent from outside the journal. So, in addition to reaching out to you directly, we will be sharing this call widely as part of our commitment to opening up the opportunities to any and all who are suitably qualified.

We welcome your Expression of Interest by 5pm Friday 22 July (Australian Eastern Standard Time) and you can submit your interest by completing this short online form. We ask about your background, editorial experience, expertise, and thoughts about the contribution of 'Business & Society' to the field. We also ask that you upload your current CV/Resume.

We will be holding two information sessions on 12/13 July (see specific dates and times below) to provide more background to this role, share our vision for the coming term (including our plans for collective leadership) and seek your input. We will also be outlining in these sessions how we propose to engage the associate editors and the editorial board members more substantially in the leadership and direction of the journal.

We hope you can attend a session that best suits your time zone. Please register for your preferred session through the links below. You are also welcome to submit your Expression of Interest now or reach out to us directly if you have any specific questions or would like further information.
