    Dear colleagues

We invite expressions of interest in participating in an online workshop organized for SIM and ONE members, as part of a project on Research Methods for Sustainability supported by a grant from the Research Methods Committee of the Academy of Management.

The workshop is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 31 March, 8:30 – 10:30 (GMT). Before deciding to register, please adjust this information in accordance with your time zone and check your availability.

The workshop objectives are to illustrate the transdisciplinary nature of sustainability research, and to highlight the epistemological foundations of systems thinking. Brief presentations will be delivered by Wendy Chapple (Vienna University of Economics and Business) and Cristina Neesham (Swinburne University / Newcastle University UK).

To enable rich discussions and insights, a substantial part of the workshop will involve small group activities in breakout rooms, exploring the philosophical foundations of a transdisciplinary project in sustainability research, and how they enable researchers to navigate new ways and methods. This workshop prepares the broader theoretical background for two subsequent workshops of the same project: Workshop 2 (Principles of Systems Thinking in Sustainability Research), and Workshop 3 (Addressing Complex Sustainability Problems with Visual, Participatory and Experiential Approaches to Systems Thinking).

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussion within smaller groups. As a condition of the project grant, the Zoom-based workshop (hosted by the Vienna University of Economics and Business) will be recorded and then published on the SIM and ONE community websites, as a free research methods training resource offered to the members of these communities.

If you have any questions about this workshop or the broader project, please email us.

    Wishing you the very best,

Cristina Neesham, Miriam Wilhelm, and Wendy Chapple
