🌍Session Title: The Impact of Geopolitical Risk on the Environmental Impact of Multinationals
🗓 Date & Time: Monday, July 28, 2025
🕰 10:15 – 11:45 AM (CEST | GMT+2) 2
📍Location: Bella Center, Hall B-B2-m2 3
Session Description: This panel will discuss the impact of geopolitical risks on the environmental performance of multinationals and their ability to mitigate climate change. The climate crisis poses a significant threat to human civilization, and multinationals are often viewed as major contributors. However, multinationals are also increasingly affected by geopolitical risks, which can disrupt their operations and divert resources away from climate mitigation efforts. The panel will debate whether and how IB scholars should consider the impact of geopolitical risks on multinationals' contributions to the climate crisis. The panelists will present research on the influence of multinationals on the natural environment and propose a research agenda on how international management scholars can advance our understanding of how multinationals can reduce their environmental impact by considering the impact of geopolitical developments. Specific topics will include the potential for cross-sectoral collaboration as a means to address environmental impact, aligning MNEs' self-interest with sustainability goals, predicting MNEs' environmental performance in an era of deregulation, and sustainability challenges faced by emerging markets and emerging market multinationals.
