    Position description: The Center for Sustainable Enterprise at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School is seeking a professor of practice to join its team of cutting-edge researchers and educators and to provide administrative leadership for the Center. In addition to providing curriculum, the Center assembles and shares thought leadership in research and best practice. Our goal is to empower business leaders in their quest for shareholder value while exercising environmental stewardship and promoting economic development and growth.

    The preferred candidate is an individual who has significant credibility and standing with senior executives in the sustainability field with a reputation derived from a prior distinguished professional career at top levels in business or policy and/or significant research that is influential among practitioners. The successful candidate will be a creative and effective teacher in Sustainability and Social Enterprise capable of contributing to the Undergraduate and Master's Programs as well as build and maintain relationships with industry and our students and alumni (e.g., through consulting projects, mentorship, student clubs, case competitions, promoting the center at events and organizing executive roundtables, etc.)

    This new professor of practice will teach sustainability concepts and related strategies and provide executive leadership of center activities which include academic/practitioner conferences, sustainability awards, and additional high-value activities that will provide business leaders and policy-makers with real-world applied research to inform decision-making.

    Candidates should have experience using or designing tools for evaluating and measuring sustainability metrics and be able to effectively teach how to implement these tools and frameworks. Candidates should be able to teach how to analyze sustainability challenges and opportunities, measure social and environmental impact, publicize and report sustainability efforts, innovate for sustainability, as well as conduct climate/environmental risk assessment.

    This position will have at least two direct reports and will be responsible for management of the center and for cultivating relationships with companies and alumni. The full-time, fixed term position will have a primary appointment in the Strategy and Entrepreneurship Area but will work closely with faculty and staff in other areas of the business school and UNC.

    Qualifications and Experience: 

    Applicants must be qualified to teach courses in Sustainability and Social Enterprise, have extensive prior experience related to sustainability, and possess leadership and presentation skills. Senior corporate social responsibility experience in a Fortune 500 firm, or similar experience, is preferred.

    Applicants should be a seasoned subject matter expert across sustainable business practices and social impact, with experience creating CSR strategies and programs developing communications platforms, leading reports that are aligned with established standards, facilitating stakeholder engagement and public-private partnerships, and creating programs or campaigns that inspire action.

    Applicants must be well-versed on current CSR trends and have the expertise required to be a trusted intermediary to senior-level contacts.

    The preferred candidate will have demonstrated ability to succeed as an instructor either through prior teaching or public speaking responsibilities.

    Education: A Master's degree is required; PhD in Management, Strategy, Economics, Operations, and other business or environment-related fields is preferred
