    The Ethics Education Committee of the Academy of Management is recognizing exemplars of ethical conduct via three awards focused on graduate student development. The 2019 awards will be announced, and presented in person, at the annual conference in Boston, during the Graduate Student Ethics Forum, which is sponsored by Thompson Rivers University School of Business and Economics.

     

    Awards

    • Business Ethics Quarterly "Exemplar of Ethical Graduate Student Practice" Award
    • Journal of Business Ethics "Exemplar of Ethical Graduate Student Supervision" Award
    • Sage Publishing "Ethics in Business Exemplar Case" Award, written by a graduate student

     

    Nomination Guidelines

    To nominate an individual or case for an exemplar award, follow the guidelines below and email your nomination to the Ethics Education Committee at AOMEthicsEducation@gmail.com by June 17, 2019.

     

    Preparing a nomination package:

    • Review the award criteria for each award, below
    • Review the AOM Code of Ethics to identify aspects relevant to the nomination.
    • Notify the nominee, as the recipient will need to accept the award in person at the conference in Boston

     

    Submitting a nomination package:

    Nominations are accepted until June 17, 2019, and should include:

    • A letter of recommendation outlining how the nominee or case meets the criteria and what specific aspect(s) of the AOM Code of Ethics is exemplified (two pages maximum).
    • A brief bio, written by the nominee, with links to their webpage

     

    Additional notes:

    • The nominee and nominator must be members of AOM
    • Awards will be judged by an awards committee made up of at least two members of the AOM Ethics Education Committee and up to one member of the award sponsor organization
    • The awards committee may follow up to request additional information from the nominator and/or nominee during the selection process.
    • Short listed award recipients will be notified in July 2019 to confirm their attendance at the conference in Boston.
    • The awards committee may decline to make an award if no application is judged to meet the criteria of exemplary ethical conduct.

     

     

    Award Criteria

     

    Business Ethics Quarterly "Exemplar of Ethical Graduate Student Practice" Award

    Nominated by graduate student supervisor(s), this award recognizes graduate student scholarship development that exemplifies the AOM Code of Ethics in practice.

    • At least three faculty involved with the graduate student, including their primary supervisor need to endorse the nomination, and validate the reasons for consideration.
    • Nomination packages will be judged based on the degree to which they demonstrate consistent, exemplary practice of scholarship and interaction with others that highlights important aspects of the AOM Code of Ethics.

     

    Journal of Business Ethics "Exemplar of Ethical Graduate Student Supervision" Award

    Nominated by graduate students, this award recognizes graduate student supervision and mentoring that exemplifies the AOM Code of Ethics.

    • At least three graduate students who are/have been supervised by the nominee must endorse the nomination and validate the reasons for consideration.
    • Nominees should demonstrate consistent, exemplary practice of graduate student supervision and mentoring that highlights important aspects of the AOM Code of Ethics, which are outlined in the nomination package.
    • Nomination packages will be judged based on the degree to which they demonstrate consistent, exemplary practice of graduate student supervision and mentoring that highlights important aspects of the AOM Code of Ethics.

     

    Sage Publishing "Exemplar of Ethics in Business Case Writing" Award, by a Graduate Student

    This award recognizes graduate student scholarship in case writing that exemplifies the AOM Code of Ethics.

    • Graduate students may apply for this award directly, by submitting an unpublished case study they have authored or coauthored (providing they are the lead author).
    • The case topic is open, but must exemplify ethical case preparation and writing, as well as ethical conduct in business or organizations.
    • Cases must be suitable for publication by a respected academic publisher and include discussion questions and teaching notes in accordance with SAGE Publishing's templates, which can be downloaded here: http://sk.sagepub.com/business-cases-authors

     

     

    To nominate/apply for an award please provide all required materials in one pdf file and email to the Ethics Education Committee at AOMEthicsEducation@gmail.com by June 17, 2019.
