  • 1.  Call for Abstracts: JMSR Special Issue on the Legacy of André Delbecq

    Posted 02-05-2018 17:51

Dear Colleagues:  We are pleased to share the details of a call for proposals for an upcoming special issue of the Journal of Management, Spirituality and Religion (JMSR) on the legacy of MSR's founding member and leading light, André Delbecq.

    Introduction to the Special Issue

This upcoming special issue is dedicated to the work and legacy of the late André Delbecq, a founding member of MSR and leading light in the area of spirituality at the workplace. André's early scholarly work was interdisciplinary and focused on exploring and theoretically mapping the application of new group processes and decision skills to the facilitation of complex organizational efforts, exploration which, according to him,  largely built the remainder of his career (Delbecq 2004, 624). In this call we are seeking contributions that focus on and bring into light the second part of his career: André's contribution to the MSR field through his scholarly, teaching, consulting and mentoring work (Delbecq 1999; Delbecq 2000; Delbecq et al. 2003; Delbecq 2005; Delbecq 2010a). In his unique way, André, informed by his solid knowledge of the organizational challenges and his Christian faith, integrated spirituality in organizational processes, decision-making and leadership development through his scholarly work (e.g. Delbecq 2006; Delbecq 2009; McGee and Delbecq 2003), his MBA and CEO groundbreaking seminar "Spirituality for Organizational Leadership"  at Santa Clara University (e.g. Delbecq 2000; Delbecq 2003), his consulting work with executives in Silicon Valley (Delbecq, 2010b) and the higher education and healthcare industries (Delbecq 2010c; Delbecq 2012). As André often claimed attention to "spiritual criteria" allows leaders to become more holistic in their thinking, more inclusive in considering the impacts of their organization's actions and more creative (Delbecq et al. 2003, 23).

We look forward to receiving your ideas for this special issue of JSMR.

    Types of Submission

We envision the special issue consisting of two distinct sections:

    • Three invited articles that will paint a rich picture of André 's work and legacy and will focus on:
    • André the person and pioneering spirit - will encompass a biographical piece on André's history and his role in pioneering the MSR Interest Group.
    • André the scholar - will review the corpus of André's scholarly work, with specific emphasis on his contributions to the MSR field.
    • André the mentor - will explore André's commitment to service and to developing future MSR scholars and practitioners.
    • A series of scholarly and practitioner oriented pieces for which we invite proposals. The intention is that these pieces will bring into light other aspects of André's overall contribution to the MSR field through his personality and his work. Submissions may include: scholarly articles exploring how authors have built upon and/or been inspired by André's scholarship (maximum 6000 words), practitioner pieces, vignettes of anecdotes and personal experiences with André and/or how his consulting work has informed their practice (maximum 1000 words). Apart from traditional paper submissions, authors may also use non-textual activities to engage, communicate, and illustrate experiences (i.e. multimedia such as special videos, recorded interviews, poems, artistic creations etc.).

    Abstract Submission

Those interested in contributing to the special issue are requested to submit a short proposal of up to 500 words in which they outline: (1) the nature of the proposed submission, (2) its central premises, and (3) its importance to the special issue.

We encourage submitters to think about how they might collaborate with others. In the case that we receive submissions that are similar in nature, we may explore the possibility of connecting authors and their interest in collaborating.

All materials should be prepared in accordance to the Taylor & Francis guidelines (i.e. Chicago Author Date, which is NOT the same as Chicago) available here:
