SIM Research Development Workshop at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting, Chicago, August 11, 2018

Do you have a draft paper in the broad field of Social Issues in Management (SIM) that would benefit from an in-depth developmental review by leading scholars in the field?

Do you have a great research idea but want feedback on how best to refine it into an impactful project?

The SIM Research Development Workshop brings together SIM researchers with the aim of:

    (1)   improving manuscripts prior to submission to high quality management journals; and

    (2)   providing an opportunity to meet, discuss and get expert feedback on early ideas for research projects – in the social issues in management field. The purpose of both types of activity is to exchange ideas, get feedback, and identify possible collaborations with others.

This year we are also lucky to have a brilliant pool of mentors including: Harry Van Buren, Igor Filatotchev, Brent Beal, Andy Wicks, Mette Morsing, Wendy Stubbs, Scott Newbert, Ted London, Nancy Kurland, Mike Brown, Christian Resick, Mike Russo, Jorge Rivera, Bruce Rayton, and Barry Mitnick.

Please note – we will do our best to find you the best match but we cannot guarantee you will all be assigned to the mentors you want.

    (1)   Manuscript Development

The manuscript development activity brings together SIM researchers with the aim of improving manuscripts prior to submission to high quality management journals. Our mentoring team includes top scholars who have been successful at publishing ethics, corporate responsibility, stakeholder or related work in high quality management and ethics journals. They are all current and former editors, associate editors, editorial advisory board members, or experienced reviewers for top journals.

We will pair you with these experienced scholars to explore how your manuscript-in-progress might be refined to achieve publication in your target journal(s). The best part is you get to discuss your work with them face-to-face, with time to explain and clarify, before you commit to the rigors of blind review.

Acceptance to Manuscript Development is competitive. Applicants should submit a paper to the organizers by May 31, 2018. We will select the best submissions and will send acceptances by June 30, 2018. Once a paper is accepted, it will be assigned to one or two mentors who will have comments ready for feedback and discussion in the session.

We are looking for works-in-progress so applicants should limit their submissions to 20-40 pages including references, tables, figures and so forth. Pre-registration is required for this workshop and an approval code will be sent upon manuscript acceptance. You may send a paper that is being presented at the AOM or another conference but not a manuscript that is currently under review at a journal. Manuscripts should be submitted as Word documents (not pdf), and should NOT be anonymized.

Please send your manuscript by May 31, 2018, with the mention 'For Manuscript Development', to siqueiraa@duq.edu

    (2)   Early Research Ideas

The Early Research Ideas activity focuses on a selection of key or upcoming research areas in SIM and attaches a senior faculty person as a topic leader to each area. Applicants will then have the opportunity to submit their ideas for new research projects or papers in that area prior to the conference. We will select high potential ideas to be included in the workshop. During the session, the topic leader will present some ideas of what they think the hot new research topics are in the specified area, and together with the rest of the participants will provide feedback on the ideas submitted beforehand.

Our mentoring team includes top scholars who have been successful at publishing ethics, corporate responsibility, stakeholder or related work in high quality management and ethics journals. They are all current and former editors, associate editors, editorial advisory board members, or experienced reviewers for top journals.

Acceptance to Early Research Ideas is competitive. Applicants will submit an abstract (no more than 1-2 pages) to the organizers by May 31, 2018. We will select the best submissions and send acceptances by June 30, 2018. Once a research idea (abstract) is accepted, it will be assigned to one mentor who will have comments ready for feedback and discussion in the session. Abstracts are expected to contain new paper ideas, not previously presented at any AOM or other conference, and not currently under review at a journal. Abstracts will not be anonymized.

Please send your abstract by May 31, 2018, as a Word document (not pdf), with the mention 'For Early Research Ideas', to siqueiraa@duq.edu

Both Manuscript Development and Early Research Ideas are part of the same workshop, scheduled for Saturday, August 11, 2018, from 1:15PM - 3:15PM at the Marriott Chicago Downtown in Clark Marriott Ballroom.
