The Research Impact on Practice Award, sponsored by ONE and the Network for Business Sustainability, recognizes peer-reviewed research that has important implications for practice. It can focus on any dimension of social or environmental sustainability.
2018 will be the 6th year of the Research Impact on Practice Award. Submissions are due April 30; please consider applying (details here).
Last year's award went to Adam Cobb, Tyler Wry, and Eric Zhao, for their investigation of the funding behind microfinance.
While microfinance may evoke images of rural villages, funds for microfinance come from the world of high finance: private capital firms as well as aid agencies and government.
In their research, Cobb, Wry, and Zhao identified how these funders' choices may weaken the microfinance sector, and how funders and microfinance organizations can adapt.
The 2017 award honorable mention went to Mark de Rond and Jaco Lok, who examined how organizations can reduce workers' risk of psychology injury. Studying medics serving in Afghanistan in 2011, de Rond and Lok identified the conditions under which events become traumatic.
Organizations need to help employees find meaning in challenging circumstances, wrote de Rond and Lok. When workers are trying to "turn…the never-ending tide of human suffering, we owe them our support."
