    CIBC Chair in Sustainable Finance, Schulich School of Business, York University

    The Sustainability Area at the Schulich School of Business, York University is seeking an outstanding scholar to join our group at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. In addition to being appointed a professorial stream full-time tenured faculty member, the successful candidate will be appointed as the inaugural CIBC Chair in Sustainable Finance for a 5-year term. The newly created position is scheduled to commence July 1, 2023, but the start date is flexible. Salary and benefits are competitive, and all York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

    The Schulich School of Business has been a globally recognized leader in sustainability for more than three decades. Such depth of expertise has recently led to the establishment of 'Sustainability' as a formal area group within the school, and consists of a faculty cohort that is considered amongst the world's best in their field: Charles Cho (Professor & Erivan K. Haub Chair in Business & Sustainability); Avis Devine (Associate Professor, Real Estate Finance & Sustainability); Burkard Eberlein (Professor of Public Policy & Sustainability); Geoffrey Kistruck (Professor & RBC Chair in Social Innovation & Impact); Dirk Matten (Professor & Hewlett Packard Chair in Corporate Social Responsibility); Robert Phillips (Professor & George R. Gardiner Chair in Business Ethics); Mike Valente (Associate Professor of Business & Sustainability); and Maxim Voronov (Professor of Organization Studies & Sustainability). The Sustainability Area Group also houses the school-wide Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business that engages scholars, students, and practitioners collectively seeking to promote the role of business in tackling pressing social and environmental issues.

    The successful candidate will possess a PhD degree, and we invite scholarship from a broad range of disciplines (e.g., economics, political science). Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated significant impact in the field of sustainable finance. Such impact will be evaluated in terms of; (1) research excellence of a recognized international calibre as evidenced by publications in top-tier journals within their respective field; (2) teaching excellence as evidenced through both classroom performance and pedagogical innovation, and (3) outreach excellence as evidenced by significantly influencing policy and practice. Desired areas of specialization within the broader field of sustainable finance include, but are not limited to; green energy transition, low carbon economy, impact investment, tri sector engagement, and the political, regulatory and governance challenges of a sustainable financial system. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded research at the highest level. The successful candidate must be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
