    About the Sustainability Area

Universidad de Los Andes School of Management is one of the first schools in Latin America with an emphasis in sustainability management. From 2000 onwards, social and environmental sustainability have been prominent research topics of several leading faculty of the School. In 2008, a Master in Environmental Management (MEM) was created. The MEM was followed by the creation of a Master in Development Practice (MDP) in 2011. While both the MEM and the MDP continue to thrive, an on-line Master in Regeneration and Sustainable Development (MRSD) was successfully launched in 2021.

The Sustainability Area was formally created as a functional administrative unit of the School in 2014. The Area constitutes an interdisciplinary group that aims at generating knowledge and building management capabilities (among private and public actors) consistent with sustainable development principles. Backgrounds of group members (full time and adjunct) include management, ecology, environmental sciences, economics, engineering, geography, political science, public policy and sociology.

In addition to teaching and undertaking research on sustainability and sustainability management, faculty of the Sustainability Area have created and led a number of impactful projects. These include programs such as the Latin American Center for Sustainable Development Goals, the Center for Sustainable Finance, the Sustainable Enterprise Network Program (RedES in Spanish), an observatory of Colombia’s National Natural Park System (Parques como vamos), and a National Environmental Advocacy Forum (Foro Nacional Ambiental).
