CALL FOR PROPOSALS OF INTEREST FOR THE ROLE OF EDITORIAL TEAM AT THE BUSINESS AND SOCIETY JOURNAL
Business and Society (BAS) is seeking a new editorial team. Business and Society is the leading journal in the field of scholarship at the intersection of business and society. The journal publishes high quality, theoretically informed and impactful research which addresses key issues across a range of topics broadly related to business and society, including but not limited to CSR, climate change, environmental management, equality and diversity, human rights, corporate governance, social and environmental accounting, stakeholder management, corporate reputation and social entrepreneurship. Key requirements for successful publication in the journal is theoretical and empirical rigor and a clear contribution to current debates in the broad field of business and society. This emphasis on scholarly rigor has resulted in an impact factor for the journal of 5.3 and 5-year impact factor of 7.2. It is ranked as an ABS 3/ABDC A journal. The journal is enjoying great success and we are excited to seek proposals for the editorship, who can continue to build on the success of the incumbent and previous editorial teams and take the journal forward to yet greater strength.
The journal is now seeking a new editorial team for a term of 3-5 years (to be negotiated), subject to agreement with the board and the incoming team. In light of the substantial rises in submissions to the journal over the last five years, we are seeking a team of 2-5 people who wish to take on the role of editorship. We are eliciting proposals from anyone interested in exploring this role. We are however particularly interested in teams that reflect:
• Experience in academic journal editorial roles e.g. as Associate Editor, Deputy Editor, and/or Editor in Chief (ideally at Business & Society, or related journals)
• Some experience in publishing and/or reviewing in Business and Society
• Engagement with the International Association of Business and Society (IABS) in some capacity
• A mix of skills across qualitative, quantitative and/or theoretical scholarship
• Bandwidth and time to take on and successfully deliver the role, which comes with a meaningful time commitment (e.g., stage of career, Dean's office support with course releases and/or respect for role in promotion)
• A clear vision for where they wish to take the journal and how they intend to do so, including a view on e.g. content, rankings, citations, and standing in the field as well as the diversity of voices across the journal
• A delineation of how the team would work and share responsibilities
• A sense of the depth and breadth of experience the team would bring to the role
Business and Society is published by SAGE. SAGE supports the journal in managing elements of processing papers and finalizing papers for publications. The contract with SAGE was recently negotiated for another 3-years and included in the new contract are some financial resources that will be available to the new editorial team to employ in agreement with SAGE. More details will be made available to teams that are short listed.
Submissions from teams interested in the role should be submitted in a document totaling no more than 5-A4 pages, size 12 font. The proposal should reflect responses to or evidence of the bullet points above, in particular reflecting the team's experience, their ability to commit meaningful and sustained time to the role, as well as any additional information the proposing team deems salient to their submission. We will consider applications from individuals who are unable to form their own team, but who may be interested in working with an incoming team. Any such interest is, however, subject to the same criteria and we are unable to guarantee that any one individual would be offered a role as part of an incoming team. This would be at the incoming team's discretion. Submissions should be sent to the President of IABS
Dr Johanne Grosvold,
j.grosvold@bath.ac.uk. Deadline for submission February 15, 2025. Interviews for the role will take place in April/May.
