    Dear ONE community,

Are you working on research about net-zero and organizations? Are you planning to be in Boston for the Academy of Management Annual Meeting this year?

If so, please sign up for our PDW sponsored by the ONE division "New conceptual tools for a net-zero world: Systems, scale and temporality". Abstracts of max. 200 words due by 23rd June 2023 via this form: https://forms.gle/Lg6L5uWQGSgFYvzE6. Organized in collaboration between Oxford SBS and Copenhagen Business School, our aim is to create a community of scholars to close the gap between net-zero/net-positive targets and action.

Please see the full call for abstracts below.

    Call for abstracts

In the last few years, organizations across sectors and industries have been setting net-zero targets as the urgency of making progress towards the global goal of net-zero has been rising. However, there are serious concerns that there is an insurmountable gap between targets and action. Organizational and management scholars have much to contribute in closing this gap, but doing so will require new conceptual approaches.

The conceptual questions we will focus on include:

    (1) Socio-ecological systems: How can organizations focus on net-zero while simultaneously recognising other systemic problems including biodiversity loss and social injustice?

    (2) Scale and scaling of innovation: How can organizations scale innovations through standardization while simultaneously adapting them to local contexts?

    (3) Time and temporality: How can organizations and managers focus on the distant future, for example through setting targets for 2030 and beyond, without delaying action in the present?

The PDW is structured in two parts. In the first, public part, we will address key questions related to research on net-zero from systems, scale and temporality perspectives with short presentations from our panelists. In the second part, requiring prior submission of a proposal/abstract, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their research in roundtables with feedback from facilitators and other participants in light of these questions.

We invite participants to submit abstracts (max. 200 words) to be considered for the second part of the workshop. Abstracts can be based on research ideas, work in progress or more fully developed papers. Participants will receive guidance from the following scholars with wide-ranging expertise related to the conceptual challenges for net-zero.

    • Juliane Reinecke, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford
    • Majken Schultz, Copenhagen Business School
    • Tima Bansal, Ivey Business School
