    Colleagues,

If you run a research centre, want to do so, or know someone who does, I encourage you to join us or share this message for the 2021 Sustainability Centers Community (SCC) workshop. It features great community, connections, and learning experiences. The deadline to register is July 1, and we very much hope you will be there. (Register now.)

"Team Vienna" (our hosts) and NBS will lead us through an exercise of "designing the sustainability centre of the future." Design thinking and innovative thinkers (including futurist Stuart Candy) will move us to solutions. In addition, each day will also feature exciting breakouts led by members of the SCC.

For a taste of what you can get from an SCC workshop, check out a memory from our 2016 workshop: video of centre leaders sharing "What I wish I had known before starting a center." Unfiltered wisdom!

And, if you want to know about the breakout sessions, here's what's planned:

    • Building interdisciplinarity in education and research. Michelle Westermann-Behaylo (University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Pilar Acosta (Universidad Icesi, Colombia), Minna Halme (Aalto University, Finland), and Marcus Wagner (Augsburg University, Germany)
    • Make academia meaningful again: A conversation on research, cocreation and impact. Helen Etchanchu (OS4Future), Thomas Granssen (Leiden University, The Netherlands), Sylvia Grewatsch (Brock University, Canada), Elke Schüßler (JKU Linz, Austria), Melissa Zaksek (University of Michigan, USA)
    • Collective action for sustainability: Business skills and capabilities. Maria Riegler, Katharina Jarmai, and Markus Scholz (all at FHWien University of Applied Sciences for Management & Communication, Austria)
    • The why, what and how of integrating sustainability into a business school. Heather Ranson (University of Victoria, Canada) and Sarah Ivory (University of Edinburgh, Scotland)
    • Going beyond the case: Incorporating games, simulations, and other digital learning into the sustainability curriculum. Tracy Triggs-Matthews (University of North Carolina, USA) and Jason Jay (MIT, USA)
    • Innovative Solutions for Sustainability in Education (ISSUE). Marina Schmitz and Silvia Damme (CBS International Business School, Germany)
    • Building climate and carbon literacy into business school curricula: A toolkit for centres. Lynn Schenk (Harvard University, USA) and Ian Thomson (University of Birmingham, England)

    • Positive Impact Rating for Business Schools (PIR): Dialogue on Best Practices with Deans of best performing schools. Katrin Muff (Institute for Business Sustainability, Switzerland) and four Deans

    More Workshop Details

The workshop is July 12-15, 2021, and will be hosted on the online SCOOCS platform.

Each day's sessions apply design thinking principles to help you figure out how best to design a sustainability centre. Each day will involve a highly interactive workshop component and peer-led breakouts.

On July 12, a 'Multi-Sector Dialogue Day' will provide inspiration and seed the conversation. The day's theme is "Radical change vs. more of the same."

Registration is €100 and enables active engagement in all sessions.

The Workshop is hosted by the Center for Sustainability Transformation and Responsibility (STaR) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the Institute for Business Ethics and Sustainable Strategy (IBES) at the FH Wien University of Applied Sciences for Management & Communication.

Biennial SCC workshops connect business school sustainability/ responsibility centres to share common challenges and identify solutions. Outputs from the 2016 and 2018 workshops are available online.
