Please watch out for this (professional looking) scam

    Hi all

Recently, someone from TBD Media (Christopher Newcombe) connected with me on LinkedIn, from TBD Media Group. Him and a colleage (Anthony Garrick) claimed to be doing documentary on sustainability leaders worldwide, allegedly supported by Bloomberg and the UN, with many companies (they named ABB, Coca Cola and many others) and major political figures already taking part. They wanted an academic voice, they claimed.

Their website and material comes across as very professional:

However, I quickly realised that this is nothing less than some kind of elaborate scam/money swindling operating, because they ask people who they want to interview to make a financial contribution of no less than 40,000 GPB.

Since then, I've done a bit of digging and become aware that this is the standard operating procedure of the company. Although they do eventually produce something, it's never what they promised and even people who have worked their in confirm the less than ethical behavior of the company. Note that many of my friends who work in media confirm that it is not normal for such companies to ask you to make a financial contribution.

I figured sharing this on the ONE platform can help raise awareness among a wide group of academics in the space of sustainability and can maybe spare you some time and energy in a useless direction (even though I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't catch on sooner than I had).
