    Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the following PDW at the Academy of Management Meeting 2020

QUALITATIVE COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS (QCA): A SET-THEORETIC APPROACH TO ORGANIZATIONAL CONFIGURATIONS

Information to participate in Part 2 of the QCA PDW!

I part 2 of the PDW, we offer researchers to receive detailed feedback on an ongoing projects. To participate in Part 2, please submit an extended abstract of 1,500-2,000 words to jmeuer@ethz.ch by 31 July 2020. Your abstract should summarize your study's topical area, theoretical background, research gap and question, and include details about the data, analytical strategy (for empirical papers), and preliminary results. Please also indicate your target journal and add a few questions that you would like the reviewers address. A panel of QCA experts will review all submissions and evaluate their fit with the PDW according to clarity of purpose, methodological rigor, and innovative character of the research. We will let you know shortly after 31 July 2020 whether we can accept your proposal to the workshop.

    Conveners & Facilitators:

During the past decade, interest in set-analytic methods such as Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and configurational thinking in management research has grown significantly. This interest is driven both by the scholarly interest in moving beyond linear thinking as well as the improvements of QCA in its application, interpretation, and legitimation. By now, QCA has become an established approach in management researchers' toolbox. We have accompanied this process during the past decade with multiple editions of highly successful AOM PDWs. Given the developments over the past years and the feedback from last year's PDW, we have re-designed this year's proposed PDW to serve the needs of two different audiences.

    • Part 1 serves management researchers with no or only little knowledge of, and experience with, QCA.
    • Part 2 targets researchers with interest in either advanced methodological topics in QCA or in discussing their ongoing QCA research with other participants and the experienced PDW organizers. If you would like to receive detailed feedback on one of your ongoing projects, please submit an extended abstract to Johannes (jmeuer@ethz.ch) by 31 July 2020.

Participation in this PDW is open to all conference attendees and requires no registration. Participants who wish to receive a list of recommended pre-readings may contact Johannes (jmeuer@ethz.ch)  before the meeting.

    Best wishes,

    Johannes
