    CALL FOR PROPOSALS

32nd IABS Annual Conference on "Social Innovation"
    June 3rd to 6th 2021 | Brussels, Belgium

    Introduction

We kindly invite you to submit your proposal to the 32nd IABS Annual Conference, which will take place on 3 – 6 June 2021 in Brussels. Submission deadline for proposals is 15 December 2020. We are planning at this stage the possibility for both on-site and virtual participation, and will further evaluate situation in light of COVID-19. The coronavirus pandemic raises numerous challenges and questions related healthcare, solidarity, economic development, social cohesion, and many more. There is not a better moment to reflect on our current social and environmental issues and their impact and relation to businesses. The topic of "Social Innovation" calls for active participation in search of solutions for these challenges, where trial and error, collaboration among science, business and policy making becomes a routine practice. Of course, submissions on all other topics of Business & Society are welcome.

With IABS 2021, we welcome you in Brussels, the heart of European policy making and diplomacy, to rethink our potential role in Business and Society to addressing the grand challenges we face today. For many more years, our society will need our support as scientists in this field, to make our ideas sound and to permeate across different sectors. IABS2021 will be a great occasion to meet after the wonderful 30th anniversary celebrated during the San Diego conference in 2019. We will strengthen our bonds as a community and put forward our thinking towards a more human, engaged and resilient society.

    Types of proposals accepted

Proposals are invited for the following session types, listed in ascending order of preference:

    • Papers: Topics related to business & society using a variety of research paradigms
    • Discussions: Author(s) share an early-stage idea not yet paper-ready
    • Symposia: Can focus on a particular area of business and society research or on a specific teaching-related topic.
    • Workshops: Working meetings that focus on a specific research or teaching challenge.
    • Innovative sessions: Activities/experiential exercises that facilitate reflection on the conference theme.

Proposals for papers, symposia, workshops and innovative sessions should be 3-5 pages; discussion proposals may be no longer than one page. All submissions will be peer-reviewed, though reviews for symposia and workshop proposals, which necessarily include participants' names, will not be blind.

A hybrid conference for 2021: onsite + online participation

IABS 2021 will be organized in a hybrid format. This means that the conference will have onsite meetings and the possibility to allow participants to join the conference through online participation. This decision came after knowing that we cannot foresee what we can (or cannot) do during the summer of 2021 in Brussels and elsewhere in the world. Yet, we are sure that we can prepare, as much as we can, for a conference that allows the participation of scholars around the globe despite their possibilities of travelling or physically meeting each other.

The conference will take place on the campus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Pleinlaan 2, 1050 Elsene (Brussels). The university is well located in the city of Brussels, easily accessible by public transport (train, metro, tram, bus), close to the European Institutions, the city center of Brussels, hotels, restaurants, cafes and more.

As we move along in the planning, we will communicate about the details of the hybridity model of the conference. We need to learn more about the implications of planning such a conference that allows the participation of multiple scholars in different places in the world and time zones, in combination with the onsite activities with those who chose to come to Brussels and join us onsite. This will in aligned with both the decision of local authorities and the board members of IABS.
