Pre-AOM 2020 ONE Times: Message from Program Chair Ivan Montiel

    Dear ONErs,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome each of you, ONErs, to the first ever AOM Virtual Annual Meeting, prepared unexpectedly and a bit rushed but with a lot of dedication and passion. First, I would like to thank our Division Chair Judith Walls and our PDW Chair Sukhbir Sandhu for the mutual support during all this year but especially since May 2020 when the decision was made by AOM that we will go virtual. In a way, we have worked on designing two conferences, the initially planned on-site meeting and then the virtual conference. Secondly, I thank the ONE Program Team Elisa Alt, Raquel Antolin-Lopez, and Natalia Yakovleva along with Javier Delgado-Ceballos, Brooke Lahneman, Johannes Meuer, Elizabeth Nichols, Rajat Panwar, and Ajith Venugopal for their work as conference associate editors. Also, a big thank to our 233 volunteer reviewers. Finally, a very special THANKS to Junghoon Park, who help me navigate all the AOM program-related tasks.

Our 2020 statistics are impressive: 211 papers and 25 symposia submissions, 39 % and 41% increase from 2019. We also saw an increase in international submissions, receiving papers from all the continents: Europe (92), North America (84), Australasia (48), South America (11) and Africa (1), representing 32 different countries. Our globalization and inclusion efforts are working and our growth in submissions denotes the increasing interest in ONE related research topics.

A key highlight of our program is the first virtual ONE Plenary, which will be held on Monday, August 10 from 8:00am to 9:15am EDT. During the plenary seven panelists will discuss the most urgent grand challenges in different parts of the world and avenues of future research for ONE researchers to advance on the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our panelists include Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez (South America), Fayth Ruffin (Africa), Andrea Prado (Central America & Caribbean), Olga Hawn (North America), Raquel Antolin-Lopez (Europe), Sukhbir Sandhu (Australia and Asia), and Caroline Flammer (Global).  We hope to "see" you there.
